   vapid- offering nothing that is stimulating or challenging. It’s basically just a synonym for boring. Although at the same time it could mean that Ellen is obsessed by her own elegance: vapid woman, obsessed by her own elegance. Hope this helps ;D

   I’ve never had a nightmare like that but considering how much Nate sees Mrs. Godfrey as a villain, I’m not surprised he’s having nightmares about that; it must feel terrible…

   Usually, just people who want to show respect for someone else, usually this is to an adult. However, since those types of phrases are old and basically forgotten, nobody uses the word anymore. I’m sure it was used more often in 2000, or maybe it’s just part of Lincoln Pierce’s vocabulary and/or idea at the time.
