This is hilarious! It’s one of the things I like about Cathy. There’s always some wild explanation for the unpleasantries known as consequences. She’s so whimsical. It’s one of the best things about the strip. It’s been pretty boring lately, so I’m savoring the injection of a little inventive silliness.
Have not been keeping up with where in time the strip is currently, but as soon as I saw this, I knew it was from the Cabbage Patch days. I had a boy, so did not have to worry about this, but I had a friend who was ecstatic when she scored one of those sorry little excuses for dolls.
I was sort of surprised by ML’s comment that she didn’t know much about the father! As I recall, she said right away that he “wasn’t in the picture” but I felt that he just was irresponsible – not that he was someone she didn’t even know! Now I see a foreshadowing of a return also…
