Hey, rick4now, that is right along with my impression upon reading today’s strip!!Personally, I had to check the calendar to make sure I hadn’t travelled back in time to the 1950’s or ’60’s! I got a kick out of the dialog style, and especially the shop clerk. Awesome! It was like a little trip back in time. Thanks, Greg and Karen…
I did not remember the actor’s name, but that classic character, the snobby shop clerk who said, "Eeeeee yesssssss!, came to mind. Frank Nelson, huh? I am just… Ahem… Old enough… to have seen tv and movies from that era.
This comic is so perfect. I may openly weep.I also absolutely love the style of this comic. I like how the simple drawings can even convey the character’s subtle expressions.
David Faulkner, the mental image of Lucy Van Pelt growing up to become an owner of, or a clerk at, a wedding boutique, is a funny one to me! I must say, if this were Lucy, she certainly cheered up later in life. Although I immediately saw the resemblance to the “Cathy” strip when we were first introduced to “Mabel”, I must say that I’m getting a kick out of the thought of Lucy of “Peanuts” in the role. Thanks for the fun thought!
Yes, ae… My fingers hurt a bit just looking at an old school adding machine, typewriter, or cash register. Ouch! Also, I love how it looks like Mabel’s side of that one panel looks like it is 1975, and the other side looks like it is 2016. I love it!
See??? Pipe Tobacco, we all just want a chance at the storyline. Gunther as a Woody Allan-esque type, with a Pru as an Annie Hall-esque type…Interesting…Complicated…Hmmmm…
Mordock and Pipe Tobacco-I also am getting a kick out of the possibility that Pru is actually Pretty Boy in disguise, just as you are, Mordock- and Dour Scotsman, as well.
Ok, Dour Scotsman! That was my thought today. Not a completely serious thought… But, the conversation Luann was privy to had an odd vibe to it, at least for me. Almost like it was one person. Also, where is Quill in today’s strip? Hmmmmm…It’s an interesting thought, Luann, unbeknownst to her, getting a mani pedi with Quill…Not that there’s anything wrong with it! I’m sure we will soon- Or, not so soon-Find out otherwise! I don’t dislike this Pru, but just find it all kind of odd…
Thanks for pointing that out. She might be at least a few years older than Quill, but probably not over 50. Only reason I’m thinking she’s at least a little older, is that she seems to be further along in her theater experience and studies. Other than that, and the clue you astutely pointed out, I can’t recall anything else hinting at her age.
