There was a time when Jaguar was my favorite car I’d probably never be able to afford. I loved the fact that it was so different that I could spot one a mile away. Then, Ford bought the company, and the car started looking like just about every car out there. I was watching a TV show where a man got into a Jaguar, and it took me several seconds to realize it wasn’t a Buick!
I remember back in the early 1980s I worked part-time at a dealer who sold Triumph cars… not long after I cleaned up two TR8s that had just come in, a well-to-do family came along with a high school aged kid to look at them… heard the kid tell the Dad how he liked the TR8 much better than a BMW they’d also looked at… so Dad bought him one…
The TR8 was quite a fast car, and could outrun the Corvette back then if you knew how to drive it right… yeah, about a month later saw a story in the newspaper about a TR8 that a kid wrapped around a tree… not enough info in the story to determine if it was the same TR8 that I cleaned up, but it was the right color (and there were very few TR8s in our area – we were the only dealer).

Real story, although disputed. The “boy” was a 22-year-old man in India.

Modestly funny comic, but oh man, so poorly drawn.

Well dad, it’s make a deal time. After he puts himself through college you can agree to spring for a BMW bike.
