Is no one in that house concerned with Rover’s well-being? Get him out of that hot box right now!

That “I love you” from the father is pretty rare for the time period. If the cartoonist had a father like that, he was very fortunate.

Agree. I worry about my dog if I haven’t seen her for 30 minutes, even though we have the Invisible Fence. Gone all night? The parents need to intervene. Please be back tomorrow, Rover!

where is the endearing comic strip that I love? This is as bad as leaving a dog in a car on a hot summer day!

My yard is fenced. I have a dog door and leave the sliding door open in nice weather. I worry if I haven’t seen or heard my dogs in 30 minutes (yet I don’t worry about them when I have to leave the house—weird, huh?) I wonder if Basset wrote the strip this way just to see what kind of uproar it would cause.

Rover is fine – he just did a space walk while Red was napping!

To D&D on your late yesterday comment. I recall that Beatle’s debut too. Third grade for me. All the girls were arguing who was cutest. All us guys thought where’d they get ‘all that hair?’ !!

I feel there’s something rather sad about this phase of the Red and Rover strip….?!

Well, I think mom and dad put Rover in the garage. Rover is getting love, attention and TREATS from mom to keep him quiet while Red continues this journey. It’s creative and imaginative but I agree with most, I go nuts when my pup is, away for too long and she goes nuts if I’m not in her clear path. YIkes. Rover Boy… it’s time for you to get back to earth and love on Red. He misses you buddy!

Terrible way to use a pet. Mom and Dad should have stopped it from happening. Do kids read this comic strip? What a thing to teach them.

Is their backyard (where the launchpad is) fenced in? If so, fewer worries; if not, remember Rover is a very well trained dog and would never stray from home…

Do you folks not pay any attention? The box is not locked or taped shut. When rover wants out all he has to do is poke his head up and step on the side of the box. Yes the back yard is fenced, it can be seen in the countdown picture.

By the way where were the fear mongers when Red and Rover were away from home at the pond fishing without a helicopter parent critiquing every move?

When I was that age in 1966 it was a solo .5 mile walk to R E Lee Elementary School. or solo trips to the park down the hill from the house for the afternoon.

Perhaps the parents are just playing along with Red and Rover. Everything will be OK.

Rovers fine. You all need to stop worrying. It’s called plot development. Relax…
