While still in early jr. high, there came the summer day one of our friends was moving away. We agreed we’d meet at dawn at the field where we all played to say our good-byes. We all had to sneak out since, in those sensible times, children didn’t do such things. I’d never been out in the morning twilight before, never seen the shadowless light or heard such a living silence. It was MAGICAL.
