I remember the last day of school (maybe even the last WEEK), we were all allowed to wear shorts to school. And this is back in the day when kids didn’t normally wear shorts to school. And girls weren’t even allowed to wear pants! (Just skirts/dresses).
Last day of school was always a half-day. Instead of walking home, Mom would pick us up at school and take us shopping. She would always buy us new flip-flops for summer. I hated how flip-flops smacked your heel on each step and would loose them the first day.
Memories. Barefoot all day, every day (except an hour or so on Sundays). Tenderfoots in June but by August, we could almost walk on broken glass. Did occasionally step on a bee though – Taught me to stay out of the clover patch.
Love Red & Rover but after summer he will be back in first or second grade whatever he is-I am so glad I never had to stay that way-down side old age. Never happy where one is chronoligly (sic) I guess.
Reminds me of the summers we went to the Great South Bay. You’d put your swimsuit on under your shirt and shorts to save time when you got to the beach ‘cuz, y’know, once you sight the ocean, smell it, hear the waves….it’s OVER!!!!

Now if Red has our dog Alex, he’d have the pool filled and ready for you when you got home, as long as you let him share it with you
