There was an early Calvin and Hobbes strip that was very similar to this. It ended with Calvin and Hobbes back inside the house with Mom who was asking about Dad who had just gone out to fetch Calvin. Dad’s speech balloon from outside the frame read “Where’s that kid?”

Yep, he’s got at least one big brother, doesn’t he? They’d lose their “big brother card” if they didn’t at least try to scare the bejeebers out of the younger one when he was sleeping outside.
