On one of last year’s Red and Rover summer strips, I mentioned Shaggy Rogers in Scooby Doo and someone replied, “Man. You know way too much about cartoons. I didn’t even know Shaggy had a surname.”
At 8.00 am today, here in the UK, I watched an episode of “Scooby Doo and Guess Who” from 2020 in which Velma and Shaggy were contestants on Jeopardy. Velma was introduced as “Velma Dinkley” and Shaggy as “Norville (Shaggy) Rogers”. There was a TV movie called “Scooby Doo in Frankencreepy” in which Velma Dinkley turned out to be descended from the Von Dinkelstein family. Freddie’s surname is Rogers and Daphne’s surname is Blake.
