Unfortunately, due to a typography error the new “k” was misplaced, and the strip went to press as “Richard’s Poork Almanac” for three months. The confused editor ran it in the Food Section, where old readers couldn’t find it and its new audience just wrote angry letters to the Post about the lack of bacon jokes. By the time the mistake was found and corrected, the committee had already given the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning to a “Ziggy” panel that had been printed without the black ink.
