FYI, In addition to being a (nationally syndicated) humor columnist for the Washington Post (Richard Thompson was a colleague there), Gene Weingarten is one of the creators/writers of the “Barney and Clyde” comic strip, available on this site.

August is vacance month all through Europe, and everyone goes somewhere else! Somehow, the big cities are emptied while the sparsely-inhabited rural areas seem to remain sparsely inhabited, except for those jailbird tourists (orange jumpsuits?)….

Hurry back, Gene. This is the third day for this same strip, so bring a new one when you return.

Day 3. I’ve said what I could on two previous occasions. D.C. is boring.
