In defense of the aliens, “howl” is a generic term for a loud vocal utterance.
Perhaps Dan T could be more specific about the nature of the loud, vocal utterance.
There is even a word for it: Onomatopoeia
Without doing so it is kind of like going to a mechanic and saying: “my car makes a noise.”
