Now Sheriff Fox has to add animal cruelty to the bad guys’ charges. At least Rip won’t get his as- I mean, has to fight the ape again.

OK, so Romeo very SUDDENLY disappears, then the dreaded ape is found dead. BUM BUM BUMMMM!!!!

The bad guys must have seen the food bill and decided since all the good guy were dead, the ape was dead weight. And so he is.
