The elephant trunk snake of Asia is so named because of its gray baggy skin that helps it hold its prey! The formosan termite emits naphthalene to clear its nests of insect predators- the same chemical used by humans to fumigate houses! In 1922, the Portuguese pilots Gago Coutinho and Sacadura Cabral took 10 weeks and 3 different planes to make the first flight across the South Atlantic from Portugal to Brazil after surviving to forced landings.
In an episode of “House”, Dr. House discovered termites releasing napthalene was the cause of a patient’s illness.
