Studies of elections show that candidates receive more votes if they are listed first on the ballot. In 1862, early baseball star Jim Creighton died at the age of 21 after hitting the ball so hard that he ruptured a hernia. The London Underground opened in 1863 with wooden carriages pulled by steam locomotives.
There have been initiatives to randomize the candidates names on the ballots. Many years ago, now, they stopped being listed alphabetically.
