The ancient Spartan Army survived on a soup of pig's blood and vinegar. The Turnspit was a small, large tested breed of dog bred specifically to run on a wheel that turned a roasting spit- Turnspits died out in the late 19th century. Dog poop collectors, called Pure Finders, worked in Europe until the 19th century, selling the feces to tanneries for use in leather making- a technique that continues in some countries today.
That turnsp dog reminds me of a machine from “The Flintstones.”
Hmmm…. Maybe we should have more pure finders, even in cities that have mandatory clean up laws.
