In London in 1896, Bridget Driscoll became the first pedestrian to die in an auto accident when she was struck by a car from the Anglo-French Motor Carriage Company, traveling at no more than 5 MPH. Pregnant elephants to the leaves of the Boraginaceae tree to help induce labor, a technique also traditionally practiced by Kenyan women. The SS Bessemer, built by English industrialist Henry Bessemer in 1875, was a ship designed to cure seasickness. It featured a pivoting deck that stayed flat as the ship rolled, but was impossible to steer and crashed into a French pier on its maiden voyage.

Is there something they can chew to induce kids to get out of the house?

I’m sure the S.S. Bessemer’s design and concept looked so much better on paper.

In Bridget’s defense, if you’d never seen one of those things before, you might have just stopped and stared until it was too late to get out of the way.

If she was on the sidewalk then it was the driver’s fault, if she was in the road then it was her fault. Stupid pedestrians have been around since long before the automobile showed up, yet we’re still trying to blame the car and driver for the jaywalkers poor choices. We should get points for removing stupid people from the gene pool.

I know of a case where a pedestrian was hit by a slow-moving car, then his head hit the pavement, which caused a brain hemorrhage, then death.

In that same time period, dozens of people were being killed by runaway horses!Another common case of injuries was people waiting at the depot and being mowed down by fallen brake rods from a passing train!
