I’m guessing Victoria chose the former? At least she got her exercise, right? (Lake County is also where Latter-day Saint historical city Kirtland is. Church’s first temple is there although now owned by splinter group Community of Christ and the non-CofC public can go through its interior; completely different from LDS temples.)

Not an outrageous bill at all. On a trip like that, you’re actually paying for the cabbie’s round trip as they’re not allowed to pickup someone coming back if out of their licensed area.

So did the distilleries accept the sonnets from the coffeehouse proprietors when they needed to restock the bar?

Which would you rather do in lieu of paying money: write poetry or walk 30 miles?

Rather have a napkin doodle from a famous Hungarian artist.

What a stupid sentence – how did making the defendant walk that distance compensate the cabbie?

This wasn’t about justice but vengeance. Justice would be making her work and hand over the money to the cabbie plus an extra 50% as a tip.
