Well, time doesn’t actually pass slower for flies. But a fly’s perception of the passage of time may be slower.

The last time I realized my fly was down in the middle of a pedestrian area, time seemed to slow down terribly…

Where canI buy a hippo? Our neighborhood lake is so full of seaweed you can’t even wade in it, let alone swim.

I often wonder who counts things like blocks in pyramids. I used to work at a count station where I counted parts by weight. But I think it would be hard to get the pyramid on a scale. Also, are all the blocks the same size?

Maybe if it’s a relativistic fly oO Obviously “Time passes” is a very subjective notion here

Not a lot of long or complicated Hippo jokes, so I’ll go for appetizer sized jokes.

What’s the difference between a hippo and a Zippo? One is really heavy, the other is a little lighter.

What do you call a cross between a hippopotamus and something that is not a moose?

    A hipponotamoose.

    (Sorry).

    He went to the Hippocampus.

So that is the reason flies can easily avoid a fly-swatter?

Since flies have a lifespan of about a month, I guess each day is the equivalent of about 3 years. Wouldn’t that mean time goes by much faster for a fly? Three years in a day, that’s pretty fast.

How do flies measure time? How do you determine time passage for flies? If time passes slower for flies due to their velocity, i.e., flying around, that suggests that our measure of time depends on Earth’s orbital rotation, the Earth’s rotation around the Sun, the Sun’s rotation around the galaxy, and the Milky Way’s velocity through the universe. If so, with all that additive velocity, time must be flowing really slow for us already.

I presume they mean subjective passage of time, in re the flies. If I slow down and take in the present moment, with as little free association as possible, time seems to slow down. Not in a disagreeable way. Pleasantly so. We’ve all had experiences of time seeming to rush by sometimes, depending on our involvement in things, and to creep along at others. The way flies neurologically monitor passing time would seem to make time “slow” for them, relative to the way we tend to see time.

Time is relative for mayflies also. A day will seem like a lifetime.

We’re less than 5 hours until Sunday’s RBION opens up for comments, and there’s a pyramid joke I’d hate to have to hold on to until RBION addresses pyramids again. It could be days, it could be months.

We just don’t know!!! So here’s the joke.

Why are the Great Pyramids in Egypt?

Because they were too heavy to carry to the British Museum.

    They are called mummy jokes.

    I’m tired. Time to rest.

I remember reading something recently, but don’t remember where…maybe in RBION? That an American president wanted to bring a hippo to the White House. Maybe Teddy Roosevelt? Though I can’t document anything on a quick Google search.

There is a theory that some of the GIza pyramids are part waste fill. They have done scans and found that there are cavities that they cant explain or get to without destroying them.
