Well, now it’s illegal in the UK to imagine depraving the king of his crown… assuming Charles becomes a good king once he gets his coronation ceremony.

That’s ironic about the Maryland Supreme Court. Because Maryland is not at all a “red” state.

Maybe the Maryland SC judges think they are like Cardinals in the Catholic Church, because the state was originally founded as a haven for Catholics.

Illegal to imagine depriving queen of her crown – hope there’s an exemption for her dentist.

Red clown noses would be the completion of those judges ensembles. ~ Richard Blackwell, dead but still charmingly and accurately snooty if I do say so myself

How would the authorities know if you imagined the Queen without her crown?

United Kingdom: Policing your thoughts since (at least) 1848. Better not pray where you’re not supposed to! Don’t commit any thought crimes!

Interesting that the year of the thought treason act in G.B. Has 3 of the numbers from 1984. I fear that USA is headed that way – following Canada – if the vocal minority keeps shouting down common sense beliefs.

According to the everything2.com website, there is nothing about “imagining” or even about the Queen specifically in the Act. RBION has misstated things rather badly here, IMO. Snippet from that site:

In 1848 the Parliament of England passed the Treason Felony Act. This law made it a high crime, punishable by exile, to write or say anything about removing the monarchy – even by peaceful means.

What it actually says is, “compass, imagine, invent, devise, or intend”, and “imagine” originally didn’t originally mean, “visualize in the mind’s eye”, but “plot or plan”. Legal authorities of the time are quite clear that the Law has nothing to say about what you merely think, because it doesn’t know.
