Rose is Rose by Don Wimmer and Pat Brady for April 05, 2013
Transcript:
Rose: A recent study claims the average person spends 9 years of their life in front of a television! Pasquale: It would be less if there weren't so many commercials! Rose: Do you really think that's the best solution? Pasquale: Uh...I'm going outside to get a fresh perspective on the subject!

I agree with Pasquale about the commercials. Used to be that commercial breaks were just barely long enough to go the Fridge for a soda, now you’ve got time to go to the restroom, make a sandwich, & check your email and still come back to the TV while it’s on a commercial break!!

love to watch whole series on netflix without commercials … interesting how most “hour long” weekly shows are only 40 to 42 minutes long … rest of the time is spent on commercials through-out the “hour” … bleeeeeeh!

My mom used to do this when she wanted to watch the soaps.

Did you ever notice that the closer to the end of the program, there are more commercials than actual program?

Commercial breaks used to be only 2 minutes, and there were only 3 of them per half hour. Now they can be upwards of 5 minutes long and there are a lot more than 3 of them. It was so annoying I quit watching TV.

All so true. So it’s better to tape the show and then fast forward through the commercials. The time you might waste putting up with commercials could be comparable to the time wasted sitting at red lights and waiting in line. It’s depressing to think of how all those minutes add up to hours and days and weeks out of our lives.

Most shows that run an hour actually have 41 minutes in content. If you record three and watch them back to back, you have opened up a one-hour window, enjoy that time doing something else.

My favorite show is Grimm. I wonder why Rose is so hard on Pasquale today but kowtowed to that spoiled brat Clem yesterday.

Love the message, but the sentence “…the average person spends nine years of their life….” contains a pronoun-antecedent agreement error. “Their” is a plural pronoun and cannot logically or grammatically be used to refer to “person,” which is a singular noun.
Pascal’s response “It would be less….” is also ungrammatical because he is referring to “years,” which is a quantifiable noun. Consequently, he should have said "It would be fewer….
Perhaps Rose and Pascal would both benefit from a review of basic English grammar!

I hate watching the big network channels like CBS, ABC, and NBC because of all the commercials that are shown. Usually watch my local PBS, Me-TV, and Disney. If I want to watch something on one of CBS, ABC, or NBC I just dvr it so I can skip the commercials.

kinda surprised no one mentioned that there used to be less commercials until reagan lifted the time restrictions, allowing more commercials. “getting the government off our backs”, he explained.

You are strict with your son and let Clem get away with everything. Pretty pathetic.
