When we first got our cat Alexandra, she was the tiniest little kitten. The first time we had to vacuum after getting her, we tried to get her to leave the room (her “big brother”, Rico, had already left the room as soon as it was pulled out) but she insisted on checking the machine out. So, we turned it on. She jumped about 3 feet into the air, fully fluffed out, and took off. However, the second the machine was turned off, she ran back into the room, POUNCED on it, and proceeded to attempt to rip it to shreds! From that day to her last, every time we opened the closet where it was kept, she would try to kill it…even if it was just to get something else out of the closet!
I can relate: I was reading a book in study hall (back in 1960 or so) when the fire alarm (a real one, not a drill!) rang. The teacher had to come back in and tell me to leave!

It’s not only comic book readers. Readers of any books tend to be a little oblivious.

To be fair to her, a vacuum cleaner likely sounds much more annoying to a cat.
