Back in 1963, they gave me an intelligence test to see if I was ready to start kindergarten a year early. I remember of the questions (yes, 55 years later) was “what’s missing” next to a picture of a snowman with no carrot nose.
I still think that was cultural bias. I had lived my entire four-years lifetime in southern California. Where would I have seen a snowman? And if you’re talking pictures and TV, there were a lot of those that were simplified versions without a nose.
