As someone above pointed out, teachers receive such poor pay that she probably had to double up on her job flipping burgers at Mickey D’s while living at home.
Here in America, we do not pay in accordance with the importance of the job – specifically in the areas of teaching, being a fireman or being a policeman.
Of course, before increasing their pay, I’d advocate for them being “Qualified” by being certified by an independent board, both physically and mentally. (and, yes, Virginia, teachers need physical stamina, as well – if you don’t believe it, try taking over for a first or second grade teacher for a while!)
Absolutely, all three professions should require meeting mental requirements, as well! Law enforcement needs to have Overt Alphas, bigots and racists removed; if you’re dealing with suppression of fires, you don’t want a pyromaniac on your crew, and if you’re dealing with the teaching of children, you might want to avoid pedophiles, and anyone lacking patience, empathy and also anyone unable to formulate a vision and work toward a goal.
As the remuneration is increased, types unsuited to the task will start applying for positions and under present standards will be “qualified” while actually being manifestly “unqualified”!
Just a note – I work at a school (custodian) and while I’m not sure how much the teachers get paid, I am fairly sure they do get paid a decent wage. Of course I am only guessing this based on the idea they must get paid more than me and I feel I get a very decent wage. The new fiscal year started today and I am now up to $15.90 an hour (during the school year I only work 5.50 hours a day).
It’s always great to go home! I remember home so well. It’s been so long since momma died that I forget how great it was to go there. Me in New Orleans & them in San Antonio. My brother would go out for breakfast burritos & we’d all sit at the table. The one I can’t fit in my home. I wish I could!!!
