There was a US Border Patrol checkstop for a few years at the Spot Road exit of I-8. I got a big grin from one of the guys when I told him he’d picked a good location for a “spot check”.
I remember when the Florida Highway Patrol put out a sign on I-75, “drug checkpoint ahead.” Then they parked by a crossover and stopped everyone who made a U-turn. True story.
