You obviously know nothing at all about Medicare, or you would understand that it’s a full time job, appealing the denials of service, or the fact that you can be ‘watched’ in a hospital instead of ‘admitted’, and Medicare pays nothing, or the fact that many places refuse to accept Medicare because delays of payment are so bad, or the fact that the money used to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act was diverted directly from the old ‘Medicare Trust Fund’, thus making it imperative that payments through Medicare be severely restricted in order to pay for Medicaid claims….
I invite you to think about this from a different perspective. When universal medical is done right, it works very well. Obamacare is NOT medical done right. I know it goes against the grain of many who regard anything “free” as a hand-out and think that everyone should pay their own way…
But here’s the way to do it:
1) Medical to be universal. No one is turned away, no one pays for services.
2) Medical is paid out of taxes, which are scaled to income.
3) The resulting (massive!) increase in the health of the workforce results in a much stronger economy.
I don’t think many Americans can honestly appreciate the incredible peace of mind that comes from waking up each morning not having to fear bankruptcy if you should suddenly have a life-threatening illness or accident. Even non-life-threatening, for that matter. As problematic as our wait times can get here in Canada, I wouldn’t trade our system for anything you’ve ever had on a bet.
Strangely, when the do-gooders in California proposed single-payer medical care, they suddenly realized it would bankrupt the state in short order. Now, suddenly, the proposals have disappeared down the memory hole.
What about all the lost jobs – the paper pushers that have to figure out how to charge 20 different insurance plans, the insurance executives who have to schmooze with the politicians to make sure that they continue to have lucrative jobs – 20% of the “health care” costs paid in this country are diverted to the insurance “industry”, and all that money goes somewhere!

Here’s an idea; anyone in the USA who wants universal health care, move to another developed country.

What she is saying in panel two contradicts itself. First she says “paying more in taxes” & then says “no one would have to pay premiums or copays”.

don’t worry about it, Sadie. Congress is all set to revert to that system.
