After 30 years in the restaurant industry, 23 of that in management, I left for a different job, and I’m happier for it. When I asked for more money, the owner told me I needed to learn to budget my pay…when I got a second job, I was told I couldn’t do that and had to quit the other place. When I got angry and upset over the situation, I was demoted…that’s when I quit. I now drive a hi-lo in a warehouse, get more pay, fewer hours (40 vs. 47), better insurance, and nice perks. Sometimes you just have to move on.

If I were Rudy, I’d be searching for a replacement job. Right now.

What Rudy should have said in the first panel is, “Boss, I am taking a personal day. Hope you remember how to work the counter.” then walk out.
