I always ask for a receipt and later check it against my bank transactions. I do like being able to access my account on line, so much better than waiting a for a monthly statement.
The one time I was charged the same amount a few minutes apart from the same merchant my card sent me a text to ask if it was correct. (Just a coincidence. It was correct.)

So…If his Mastercard went out of business, how could he get a refund from them?

I keep my receipts for three months.
Then I empty my pockets and start again.

You can get a refund there, when you pry it from Armstrong’s cold dead hand.
