Elementary school What a smart child! She's clearly gifted! Middle school Wow, you are exceptionally smart for your age! High school So intelligent! So promising! College Hey! Hey. Reality You are utterly average. Reality
Opposite happened for me. Since age of 4, jealous older sister tells everyone I am a criminal out for no good; only reason I had good grades was that I cheated. So all through school was treated as stupid and nefarious. By end of high school, was ranked in top 10. In college volunteered for psychology department testing. Found out I have IQ of 140. What a waste of a childhood. This was emotionally cathartic.
