And because if we try to encourage STEM thinking in our girls, parents are “told” they’re being PC, or ruining her femininity, or not being traditional, or she won’t find love, or she won’t be a Mom, …………….

Go watch the youtube videos by Jordan Peterson. He talks about this and the data that measures it. It seems that in early school years, girls show as much ability in stem as do boys but that they don’t maintain interest in the subject. There are similar areas where the opposite is true.

I kept my Lego and later gave it to my girls to play with. I held off on buying sets and went more for the blocks and motors and other such things. The sets are nice but the blocks allow for more creativity. Unless it’s the Millennium Falcon. The $799.99 Millennium Falcon. That’s one big MF. Including porgs, Chewie and other mini-figs.

My daughter and I built things with K’nex and Legos every night because she liked them. She had dolls, but was not much of a doll person but still did a lot of “girly” things with friends. She graduates as a civil engineer this spring, I could not be more proud of her!

My parents learned early on that it was useless to give me dolls. My sister, though, loved them. I was always more interested in my brothers’ toys because they were fun, exciting or mentally challenging.
