I love the exclamation point! I let all the spiders I find outside too. I figure their little lives matter as much to them as mine does to me.

In the next room, an especially stately one, the women see nothing at first, but then they notice a huge spider on the wall. The Interpreter asks them if there are any other spiders in this room. Tearfully, Christiana discerns the room’s lesson: that they are the other spiders, and their “venom” is worse. Interpreter points out that no matter how much “venom” they contain, they may cling by faith to the walls of the King’s House, much as this spider clings to the walls.

That’s funny. Because if it was an indoor spider, putting it outside is a cruel experiment for the spider! An indoor spider is used to life indoors, the outdoors is utterly and completely foreign to them and they usually die a slow death because they cannot cope!

And thus did Beatrice the CLG contribute to children’s rhyming lore, as well as show her humanitarian sensibility….
