@ Nabu, Rise22, & Aryalover: nothing wrong with that. often they decide independantly to pay tribute to an anniversary of something or the time of year. so what? as long as it entertains me, i’m happy. besides, there are a finite number of possible topics. if you read enough strips, some of them are bound to repeat themes.
LOL! I’m a little late today on this one, but occasionally I set the smoke alarm off (usually when broiling a steak where the fat cooks too quickly). Nothing major, just a bunch of smoke. I always tell my kids “Dinner’s ready!!” I can only imagine what they tell their teachers.

Roz should have put it on his pie and told him, “There’s no extra charge for the whipped topping today.”

I’m pretty sure some of these cartoonists are constantly talking to one another - their ideas cross over all the time.

Maybe someone mentioned Erma Bombeck. She’s the one who wrote about using the smoke alarm for an oven timer.

It was necessary to the culinary experience.

yyyguy: Are you saying that today is the anniversary of meatloaf? ‘Cause I think that’s in November.

The Food of the Gods: Burnt offerings. My roommates set off the smoke alarm about twice a week. I think they ARE using it as a timer.

I liked Erma Bombeck and Dave Barry (still alive) and add Lewis Grizzard.
I was thinking about the old foil Jiffy Pop taped to the wall above the stove…..
The redneck fire alarm.
