    This is absolutely ridiculous. My father, a refugee from war-torn Europe, never got past grade 3 and worked as a short-order cook, barely literate. But he loved opera, because he could understand the language. He called “highbrows” “longhairs,” but he loved opera!

    The Metropolitan Opera broadcasts live about ten times a year to movie theaters around the world. I strongly recommend to anyone reading this that they check it out. Info at metopera.org.

    I remember my dad telling me he used to listen to the Met Opera broadcasts on Saturdays as a kid, which really surprised my because he was otherwise blue-collar all the way. I don’t share the love, though. I enjoy classical music, but when the fat lady starts singing…

    I love the music but the singing chases me away. Firstly because sopranos hurt my ears, and secondly, I have no idea what the men are on about.By the way, sopranos singing anything hurt so it isn’t the form.

    It is nothing as bad as trash pop music annoying the highbrow. I thought music was the universal language. ha
