There’s actually no small amount of brilliance behind the senator’s concept. Many state’s lotteries devote their revenue to education. If the state itself became a “player,” it could calculate the optimum point at which the purchase of X tickets for Y dollars at a payoff value Z would result in the highest probability of winning with the lowest net loss. Then if the state wins, it simply puts the winnings toward education — which is already what it’s doing as a spectator in the game.
I always come to the comics website for a useless political argument. Don’t like the cutbacks on food stamps? Vote Democrat and hold on to your wallet.
The senator must be mentoring one of my neighbors. I live in a cooperative and we are imposing an assessment to raise $375,000 over 6 years for capital improvements. She protested the assessment of $90 per month per member and suggested we could raise that amount by holding a “bake sale”.

The Republican strategy is to pay for the massive tax cuts by taking food out of the mouths of poor people. Because that’s what Jesus would want.

Great idea, since the governments run the show.

A billion Powerball tickets would cost us a lot less than “tricke down” has.
