People are easily offended – a good library should have things anyone can refuse to read because they find them offensive. However, children’s “offense skills” are not fully developed & I believe parents should have the right & responsibility to shield their kids from material they believe shouldn’t be read. Some call it banning or censoring – curating may be a better description.
I find it truly humorous and ironic that, with a world wide web that provides information and pictures on any subject, some people are so short-sighted that they think taking a book or two off library shelves is going to stop the flow of information. BTW, next week is Banned Book Week. Enjoy!
If you don’t learn that history is offensive, you won’t learn from it. If you don’t learn that fiction offends you, you won’t know why and promote consuming better fiction.

I asked the librarian for a book on Pavlov’s dog and Schrödinger’s cat. She said it rings a bell, but she didn’t know if it was there or not.

The librarian said they have a new book about constipation. It hasn’t come out yet.

What do you call a librarian who’s also a magician? A book wizard.

Fortunately, I don’t have to read what offends me. But I should also have the right to read what offends you .

There is actually a sign on the Vanderbilt U. library saying, “A great library has something in it to offend everyone.” Yay for them!

If you really want to wind them up, try having a drag queen story hour. I honestly thought heads were going to explode when we did it at my library.
