I’m quite sure that there are enough lost socks near any laundromat that they can get together and start their own political party. Or any other kind of party.
They set cross-country ski trails on one of the local golf courses here in winter. At the entrance is a small tree which people hang gloves, mittens, scarves, and hats from that they’ve found lying around. It looks like a tree specially grown to bear winter garments as fruit.
The little mitten made me sad and then I realized I was empathizing with sentient clothing and I was suddenly greatly disturbed at the implications of all this.
My daughter used to say that. Living where we do in a wintery area, you see a lot of single mitten/gloves. In the street, hanging somewhere wherever. And the kid used to feel bad for it. “Oh, I bet he misses the other one”.
This reminds me of a Charles Adamms cartoon with someone sitting on the bed, looking up at the ceiling, and saying, “I’ll never get to sleep until he drops the third shoe.”

The little kitten will soon turn up due to the microchip in the mitten.

It could be worse; some desperate fool could use that sock as toilet paper.

maybe check that huge laundry basket where others go to find their mate and if you can’t, there may be another that comes close to make you happy.

At first glance, I thought those two sitting on the machine were incarnations of Mr. Butts.
