Greek is mostly phonetic. The sound ‘ee’ is made by ‘eta’ which in lower case looks a bit like an ‘n’ and in uppper case like an ‘H’. The sound ‘eh’ is maded by ‘epsilon’ whixh is pretty much our letter ‘e’. The sound ‘ih’ as in ‘phonetic’ is made by ‘iota’ which is our letter ‘i’. It also stands in for ‘y’ and a soft ‘j’. (Iesou) Modern Greek pronunciation is different from Ancient Greek, quite significantly with some letters. Thus ‘Beta’ is now pronounced ‘Veta’ and the ‘Bee’ sound is obtained by the juxtaposition of ‘Mu’ and ‘P’.

    Pi is good.

However, I believe the tendency to over inform in genetic, ian. Some of us just phonetic it in.

So, iangoodson, you gave us a long explanation on the pronunciation of the different Greek vowels, but I’m still unclear, then, how to correctly pronounce “pi.” I guess it would be easier to just say, “3.14159,” approximately.

I could go for never-ending pie. As long as it’s not pea or poi pie. And not in Peoria. I don’t want to pee or poopoo pea or poi pie in Peoria.
