Knowing that you don’t have to know everything, is everything.
I still need to learn that; I still beat myself up over mistakes, and for not knowing everything about the job I just started 6 months ago.
That sounds like one of those paradoxes that Kirk used to confuse the insane Voyager craft, or Mudd’s women.

The depth of my ignorance constantly astounds me. Thus, I am easily amused.
There are four levels of knowing (per the University of VA’s Leadership Development Seminar):
1) You don’t know what you don’t know: Ignorance (Bad)
2) You don’t know all there is to know: Learning (Good)
3) You know that you don’t know: Awareness (Good) <-Where Norm is now.
4) You know what you know: Arrogance (Bad)
Entropy and Inertia will try to settle/keep you in 1 and 4. Through effort and open-mindedness, always strive to stay in 2 and 3.

Real “experts” don’t know everything about their field. What they do know is the extent of ignorance in their field and themselves, and how to go about learning what they don’t know.
