I suspect it is a temporary malfunction in the ear. After a haircut, the singer, Roger Miller, found he suddenly lost the ability to sing on key. A doctor discovered the problem was simply a tiny piece of hair lodged against his ear drum.
Except breaking your heart isn’t permanent. You can have another chance on the very next hole.
Years ago, I was working in an office when the boss suddenly threw on his coat and dashed out the door. Turns out his daughter had just fallen off the uneven bars during gymnastics practice and was being rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. She had broken her neck and was a quadriplegic for the rest of her short life. She died a few years later of pneumonia.
People do not realize just how dangerous gymnastics can be. I had a cousin who broke his neck in a fall off the vaulting horse when he was in high school. He was paralyzed and in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
