In accordance with custom, the media demand that the new Democratic president tack to the ideological center. (Man: Obama won the campaign as a centrist. But he'll have to govern from the center.) (Woman: Obviously.) How can a centrist become more centrist? (Man 1: You must reach out to the fagbashers, racists and Jesus freaks.) (Barack Obama: What, no skinheads?) (Man 1: Passe. Totally 1987.) Because of the media's inexorable shift to the right. Obama's pre-november centrism is now considered the equivalent of socialism. (Barack Obama: Of Bush's two wars, I only dislike one.) (Man 1: Unless he changes course, he'll be a stalinist by January.) The center: It just feels right. (Barack Obama: Somewhere in Afghanistan, there's a wedding going unbombed.
