Caring for a parent made helpless by dementia sucks. It sucks more when there's ambivalence. My mom likes strong coffee with logs of sugar substitute and cream (not the crap they serve in the nursing home) There's ambivalence when they abused you when you were helpless. When the abuse only stopped because you were no longer helpless. (If you ever hit me again I will kill you) When you cna't help but care. When you can't help but remember. (Be careful- don't spill, Mom)
