There is no “quiet time” after 10 pm? I would be murderous if I had to listen to a TV until 2am. If she is so special why doesn’t she have her own room?
Went to Kanab yesterday and got almost 1000 pounds of cat and kitten food for the ferals. We knew what the poundage is because Best Friends keeps track as the food is loaded into the truck. Usually it’s just me and Brad loading it. This time there was an awesome production line going and I didn’t have to do anything. Brad was inside the truck stacking until he had to back out and make room for more.
This is the road to Kanab. About 10 miles out of Hurricane, we cross into AZ. It’s patrolled by the sheriff and the AZ DPS. When we cross onto the reservation, that part is patrolled by the tribal police. We leave that and are back in AZ. At some point we cross back into UT. Eventually we get to a stop sign. If we turn right, we are back in AZ. If we turn left, we stay in UT.
One time we took a barn cat up to a rancher who lives just past he stop sign on the AZ side. We waited and waited at his house for his wife. We thought she forgot about us. We drove back into UT about 2 miles down the road to the elementary school where she works. She eventually came out and reminded us that she lives in AZ which is an hour behind UT.
In the span of about an hour we cross between UT and AZ several times.
These are the kittens in KY that I have been talking about. They were picked up by the transport drivers yesterday and are on their way to me at last. There are 4 boys and a girl.
@Queenof America: that’s a lot of cat food. God Bless You for your great work-—————@29palmsmechanic: glad you are doing much better. God Bless You.-—————Be well my friends.
I feel I need to clarify a few things. Night before last, roommate fell asleep and I had nurse turn off TV. Last night she was still awake. No , there is no “quiet time”. Wish there was. She is two feet away and it is hard for me to explain these things in a phone call where she can hear. No matter what I feel, I was raised not to be rude and embarrass someone. I prefer emails anyway. I can answer them at my convenience and if I send one I am not interrupting someone else’s day. They can answer at their convenience. I am tired, working on only a couple of hours sleep. I am still trying to heal and being able to interact when I feel like it or have the time to really give someone my attention makes me happier. I have appreciated and enjoyed the calls I have gotten, but we are all from that generation where we will take a call just to keep from being rude. I hope I have not hurt anyone or made you think a have not loved getting to know some of you. Please know, I will keep in touch with those the have asked, but it will be with emails. That way I can concentrate on spending my time getting better and when I feel like it give each and every one of you the time you deserve, but yes, on my terms. I hope that isn’t terribly selfish of me. I have friends coming by t and I hope they understand that I am still recovering from major surgery and do not need a three hour visit. It wears me out and I am really hoping for a nap today. I will have PT at least once today and that wears me out also. I have not been bright eyed and bushy tailed for a long time and it still will not happen over night. I am so glad to have the Ten Cats community on my side. I hope you all understand, I am sure you do or you would not be a member of the TC community.Wish me luck on the nap. :-)
This is my first attempt at adding the text first as requested by gweedo. I have about 3 yrds of this if anyone wants it. It has some sparkly thing going on and would make a cute skirt for a little girl.
@PamI am only an occasional visitor to TC. I was unaware of your surgery until I read about it here, mainly via Gweedo’s posts. But now that I am here I want to wish you a speedy and full recovery with the best possible outcome. :-)
@Queen: Impressive load of cat food for the ferals! Will consult a map of your area as I hate to admit confusion as to the location of some states. The 5 Kentucky kittens are so beautiful…wonder if Jessegooddoggy spotted the dark grey one in the rear. I kept counting 4 kittens and then noticed her/him. Thank you for what you, Brad and Susan are doing for these felines!
@Gweedo, and others: I talked to Pam earlier today. She seems to be in good spirits in spite of the ‘room mate’ situation. She is very appreciative of all good wishes and especially the cards. And of course, Gweedo ’ Her Guardian Angel’. Be well my friends.
PAMThe old saying is true: *A Hospital is no place to get better"You will progress faster once you get home with your comfy chair and kitties on your lap!
We’ve got a brand new (well, five years old) hospital around the corner from us in Birmingham. It’s been designed so that most of the rooms are private, and the ones that aren’t, the beds are well spaced. And all the TVs can only be used with earphones – no keeping roommates awake. I spent a night there after a ‘plumbing procedure’ back in 2011 and I was very impressed.
Well, I’m still not getting any action from the internet, or anyone from Facebook. Im sure that part of the problem is that the word is not getting spread very far or wide.I have a tiny number of followers on fb, and anyone that stumbles across it by surfing GoFundMe is seeing the child with cancer, the hero that saved a life, the family that had a house bun down.
Its hard to compete with those kinds of tragedies. Not that it should be considered a competition.
I did send an email to the lady that i talked to at the newspaper, asking if they were still thinking about doing a story for me. I said, "Last month we had a conversation about the paper possibly doing a story about the problems that people in wheelchairs have with transportation, hopefully mentioning my GoFundMe campaign to acquire funding to purchase a van.I was wondering if you had done such a story, or if you are still thinking about doing a story.I’m not trying to jog your elbow or be pushy in any way here, i just would like to know if its still possible that a story may be done. Thank you.” I hope that i get a reply soon. I suppose that i should have sent the mail earlier. if you want to try to contact her and help put a little bug in her ear, her email address is, dvance@newportnewstimes.com.Her name is Diane Vance. Speaking to her was easy, she seems to be a nice person.
On a different note, I have been doing some research into some of the smaller vans.I discovered that the older Ford Transit Connect’s are just barely too short. At the door, two inches too small. The interior height is exactly what my taller client is in his chair. If it was two inches taller at the door and in the cargo space, it would have worked. The Chevy Astro van is a full ten inches too short inside. It looks as thou i am going to have to acquire a full sized van if i want to do this on the cheap. some full sized vans are low enough that i could get away with a homemade ramp. and I’m sure that there is a van i haven’t seen yet that is not quite full sized, not quite mini that would be perfect. I just haven’t noticed it yet.
Does anyone know what the headroom for an old VW mini bus is?
There are still about 200,000 people without power in Vancouver, so if Graham is one of them he has no way of reaching GoComics. (I was lucky — got mine back around midnight after being off for 12 hours.)
Highway 9 is quite a bit East of Vancouver (though close enough for a Vancouverite to pick up a stray cat.) I was thinking in the mountains and forest of North Vancouver — they always get the worst of the weather..BTW, since the cartoonists submit their strips early, my speculation is probably horsefeathers.
I may have been wrong about the Ford.I re measured my taller client. He will be able to fit with about two inches. If i remove his headrest, and get him to scrunch down, he could fit through the door.Hmmm…
It would be a first for someone to get frostbite in Pitt Meadows (or Pitt Lake, or even Pitt Polder) even though the new reality [sic] series “Curse of the Frozen Gold” takes place at the head of Pitt Lake.
Regarding Pam – With as little sleep as she’s getting, not to mention the food situation, from past experience I would suggest she unplug the hospital phone and turn off her cell phone. She needs to rest at night so she can concentrate on therapy during the day. I know it sounds harsh because people want to call her and visit with her. As much as I like my friends, they all had strict orders to not call me until l got home. And, even then to wait until I called them. I was very grateful they all took what I asked to heart and left me alone.
29Palmsmechanic: I think you are going great! Keep up the good work.
When I was finally home after each surgery (2 knees, hernia, bypass where my entire abdomen was sliced open) just sitting down in a chair at the computer and then having to pull myself up, was a &^%$. (I censored myself) It was physically exhausting. In light of that, I’ve put myself in her slippers/sox and left Pam alone other than a card and a reply to an email she sent me.
This is gonna be one long “reply” page!Pam Please know we are pulling for you, just a few days longer and you will be sitting with those kitties around you!Hang in there sweetie.29PalmsYou are doing fantastic! And no, I won’t call you “sweetie” LOL
Oh, another day without a new strip. I hope all is well with Graham after that bad storm in Canada especially in Vancouver.Storm power outage Vancouver
In the meantime, Snow Sez has had a terrific storyline going and today’s is very sweet. If you’re not a regular reader (MWF) you are missing a great strip!
I love how the comments can go on and on without a comic strip. Eldo – thanks for ‘the story so far’ so we can get a Ten Cats fix. 29palmsmechanic – love your pictures. Nice to know help is on the way. Have a great day everyone and hopefully we won’t be deprived much longer. Hope all is well with Graham.
More cats…….I love the cat holding a cat holding a cat holding a cat.Well, it was 3:45 this morning when I finally called to have someone turn off my roommate’s TV. That was bad enough, but the jerk of a nurse that came in, turned on all the top lights. I was lucky he didn’t wake her up with so much light.I am dead on my feet so may tell them I won’t do therapy today. With the meal fiasco around here, I have decided that there is no reaon to stay after I get back from my doctor’s appointment Wednesday. They probably won’t feed me lunch. Why hang around for a supper that I may or may not get that will be an hour late and given only 10 minutes to consume. Spend another 2 hour night on 6 day old sheets to have a bite of breakfast that will be an hour late to then finally leave this hell hole. I would rather go home wednesday afternoon, to a cool place where headache may go away. A place with clean sheets. A place where I can eat what I want when I want and then actually maybe get more than two hours sleep because the cats are not allowed to watch TV past 10. Actually, Precious usually wants me to shut it down and go night night about nine. I will be home Wednesday afternoon. It may be late, but at least I will be back in the real world.
Update from Vancouver storm central: There are only a few suburbs left without power. Only one serious injury has been attributed to the storm. Graham may at worst have some property damage to see to, but nothing to get us too concerned (I hope!)
The lady who sent Pam there absolutely needs to know what went on. After each of my hospital stays I received a customer care survey. I was brutally honest about the stay after the second knee. I held nothing back. Pam should do the same.
So sad to see it’s been 2 days with no new strip. I hope Graham didn’t have too much damage from the storm in BC. I normally don’t get online to read the comics on weekends (I spend all Monday-Friday, roughly 14 hours a day or more on the computer – by the time the weekend comes, I don’t want to see a computer screen), so I didn’t realize until now that anything was amiss.
@Pam, I hope your rehab ordeal is over soon, and can enjoy the peace and quiet of home to fully recover.
I saw this amazing story today, and immediately thought the TC family would enjoy it:
@ppyfssPam, glad to hear you are going home a day early. You’ll heal much faster under your own roof, sleeping when you want (cats permitting) and eating, in your words, “what you want, when you want”.
HavIng trouble with the Internet. Will try to get this done. I stirred up quite the hornets nest. The entire place is up in arms about what happened over the weekend. Don’t know if it will change anything, but at least I know I did what I had to do for the patients that are staying here. Found out that there were at least three maybe four other patients that got shafted over lunch Saturday. Patients come first. Period. How hard is that???Anyway, I will be going home in the morning. I do not know what time yet. PT had to admit that they didn’t do much while I was here because I had already done it.One more night of way too hot to sleep, TV on until wee hours of the morning and breakfast being an hour late. Aw, fond memories. NO!!!!!Will try to let you all know when I get to my place. Two more cards today, up to 19. Thank you. Those of you that included your email addresses, thank ou so much. Will make use of them after I get home and settled. Have doc appt on wednesday so may not hear much from me.I want to thank each and everyone of you for being there for me. I do not how I would have made it through this with out you all “having my back”.

I’m worried too!! We need to hear from Graham!!
In the meantime, Snow Sez has had a terrific storyline going and today’s is very sweet. If you’re not a regular reader (MWF) you are missing a great strip!29palmsmechanic over 9 years ago

You would think Graham could get to a computer by now?
