We just had a lovely Christmas. I have been too sick for weeks to plan and shop for a Christmas dinner, so for the first time in many years, I DID NOT COOK! We live near the International District, so have choices. We ordered Sushi, sashimi, gyoza, tempura, miso soup et al from a reputable Japanese restaurant and stuffed ourselves. All I had to do was go to the wine cellar for champagne! My wife, bless her heart, made pecan and blackberry pies.
This may become a habit!
Of course New Years is approaching and I am starting to feel better, so I may just do a ham…
We didn’t get the whole family together for Christmas as we normally do. It was just me and only 2 of my 6 brothers I have 2 sisters, but they didn’t come. All I made for dinner was a small one pound ham and the mashed potatoes. I made Jello the night before and also a chocolate cream pie. It was a nice, quiet day – not a bit of the stress we usually have (due primarily to a certain brother who always instigates disagreements and sometimes nasty verbal exchanges). I am always one of the primary cooks for our larger gatherings my younger brother and his wife as well as one sister also help with cooking) and I was starting to feel like an outsider to the family gathering – just kitchen help and a batch of fudge (fudge for Christmas is a long-standing family tradition that began long before I was born. I became the family fudge maker many years ago). So the small, quiet gathering was much nicer. Stress free and I didn’t have to do so much cooking. For once, I was more than just kitchen help (I still made fudge, too). I think we have come to the end of large family gatherings for Christmas. I think those 2 brothers and I (and hopefully one of my sisters) will continue having our own small gathering and let the rest of the family do Christmas without us.Stress free is so much nicer! My other sister doesn’t drive and has no way of coming for Christmas &she lives too far away for us to go get her.Dennis – blackberry pie sounds FABULOUS to me – or triple berry pie where you also put in raspberries and strawberries. Yummy! Hope you’re feeling better soon!
Good day. I placed a very funny cat video in my Bob Wharton timeline on Facebook dealing with cats and Christmas trees. It’s worth checking out or those who can. Meanwhile, I have posted ten funny pictures to the Ten Cats Fan Club page on Facebook.
Lovely Christmas spent with family & friends from overseas, only thing to spoil it was getting up at the crack of dawn today get them to the airport for their flight home!
The family left this morning, It was hectic and the 11 year old came down with a nasty cold on Christmas Eve, and barfed all over the guest bathroom on Christmas Day and they got a bunny for Christmas and it died on Christmas Night…..poor thing, it had something wrong with it, it never moved or twitched her nose or hopped, just sat there.
Phew! Just a normal Christmas here.
At least my SIL cooked dinner, Ham and Turkey and he made grits to die for! We had pumpkin pies and chocolate cup cakes.
And now I think I will go clean my stove, it looks like a food bomb exploded on it!
I hope you all had a lovely day and got just what you wanted!

Good morning laughing kitty and Dennis in Seattle and all the other Graham Crackers.
We had a very festive Christmas at mother-in-laws, ate turkey and beef tenderloin and generally stuffed ourselves. Everyone was spoiled rotten!

Good night, Graham Crackers. I must get to bed. I have to work tomorrow (I don’t start until the afternoon, so I still get to sleep late).

I’ve heard of cats dragging a lot of things home, but a Christmas tree. Good for you, Chesney!
