Today is:

National Take a Hike Day. But the weather forecast calls for a “messy mix” of snow & rain. Not good hiking weather. Besides, I have to work.

National Baklava Day. Never tried it, never made it.

National Homemade Bread Day. I have made homemade bread before, but won’t have time to do it today.

On another note, while driving home from work last night, I saw a big buck deer standing by the side of the highway – right in the same general area as I had the doe run into my car that one time. I’m always extra watchful for deer now on that stretch of highway. The buck just stood there while I slowed down to a crawl (luckily the car behind me was a log way back so my slowdown didn’t affect them). Then I don’t think I went more than a mile or two when I saw 3 does standing by the road. Again, I slowed down to a crawl. The front doe looked like she was going to cross in front of me, so I slowed to a near stop. Then all 3 of them turned and headed back where they came from. Crisis averted. It gave me a bad couple moments of worry they’d cross, but they wisely decided not to.

Graham, that’s a nice commentary on Chesney and his cattitude.

Great poem. Yup, that’s Chesney alright. On another note, saw a sparrow while out walking today and I also heard some birds chirping. Didn’t see very many animals due to the rain.
