Wind finally died down. I don’t think I could stand another night of banging and crashing. Never did find out just what was banging and crashing either.
National Scrabble Day. I do like word games, but Scrabble is not one of my best ones.
National Make Lunch Count Day
National Thomas Jefferson Day
National Peach Cobbler Day
National Borinqueneers Day. I had no idea what this is, so I looked it up. This is what I found:
On April 13th, National Borinqueneers Day recognizes the sacrifices of the Puerto Rican Regiment of the Volunteer Infantry. Today the regiment is designated the 65th Infantry Regiment of the United States Army.Congress first authorized a volunteer military presence in Puerto Rico the year after the island became a United States territory – 1899. Since the Spanish-American War, Puerto Rico’s military personnel have served honorably, though often in limited or non-combat roles. At the end of World War II, the military demobilized the 65th Infantry. However, when the Korean War broke out, the United States reactivated the combat-ready units; that included the 65th.During the Korean War, the 65th adopted the nickname “The Borinqueneers.” The name honors the Taíno Indians, the original inhabitants of Puerto Rico or the island of Borinquen. Their operations during the Korean War provided substantial support. The Borinqueneers received numerous decorations, including more than 2,700 Purple Hearts, 600 Bronze Stars, 250 Silver Stars, 9 Distinguished Serve Crosses, and 1 Medal of Honor, among other commendations and awards.
Weird. When I first tried getting the comics on Google Chrome as I usually do, I still was getting all the comments, but not the strips. Then I got on the comics using Firefox (which is my default browser that I use for emails & stuff) and I read Ten Cats from there. Then I tried one more time, going to Google Chrome. I did not see today’s strip, but I clicked to see if I would be able to see yesterday’s strip. It wasn’t there for the first couple seconds, then it just popped up. Now it’s all back to normal, thank goodness. I just hope it stays that way!
I forgot to mention that I saw 2 baby mourning doves on Monday. Fledglings, actually. I didn’t realize they would be hatched this early in the year, let alone be flying. Two adult mourning doves (they had to be mom and dad)were nearby.
Now that I was finally able to see the comics tonight, I went back and read yesterday’s Pickles strip. And a few commenters mentioned that they had the same problem – comments only and no strip. I’m glad it wasn’t just me. And gladder still that it seems to be fixed now.
Cataract surgery this morning at 8 am. Got up at 1 for a quick light meal, trying to get a cup of black coffee down , no milk allowed. I’m not concerned about the surgery, but it will be a month before a new prescription can be written – I need it for the other eye and don’t like contacts – so I’m not sure how my glasses will work in the meantime.
Definitely some bugs around here. Sometimes i see the comic image sometimes not. Sometimes i see all the comments othertimes they are hidden. Inconsistent
How about a bucket on catnip? (How are they going to pay for all of this, by the way?) On another note, saw three robins, two sparrows, a chickadee, a junco, and a rabbit while out walking today.
We dodged a bullet in West Tennessee tonight. Severe thunder storms with 60 mph winds, but no tornado. I fed the dogs at 4:30 instead of 6 and got them out before the rain started (before the thunder and lightning too). By 8 pm we were able to go out one more time as there was only a light sprinkle of rain left. The lightning strikes were intense, and the thunder was loud, which kept Birdy by my side and Finn in my lap.
