Here are some photos from Queen of America’s kittens she started fostering this past Sunday.
In case you missed QoA’s missive from yesterday, here it is repeated below:
“On Sunday, I went to see the 10 kittens Dr Susan has (the mama and babies Robyn had asked me about fostering). She had a person lined up to take her (before the babies were born) but on Saturday, 5 babies came. She was still going to take them until 5 more showed up. That’s a lot for a first-time foster mom so I totally understand her hesitation. Anyway, Dr S ran over and got them all. She called me to ask if I had 10 colors of yarn to distinguish them. I didn’t have any since I don’t knit or crochet. Then she asked if I had nail polish. YES! That I have. I picked 13 colors of regular polish and took them over to Dr Susan. We made a chart, weighed each baby and painted a few tiny toes. There are 5 black kittens and 5 solid grey ones. Five were 0.20 kilo and five were 0.26 kilo.” (BBC comment: For those not too familiar with metric weights, it works out to between 7.05 oz to 9.17 oz, about half of a small bottle of water).

Late development from QoA, with some sad news… One of the larger “grey’s” died, neither she nor Dr Susan know why.
Last year, when I got the new kitten – the one I called Oliver until I discovered that she was a girl (now she’s Molly), I considered getting another kitten for her to play with. She was pestering my other cats and they were not happy with her. When I got these feral kittens earlier this year, I was hoping Molly would play with them. But she just hissed at them when they wanted to play with her. But now, she has decided it’s fun having 3 kittens to play with. I think it was through her that the kittens discovered we have an upstairs in this house. I just found Molly and Pebbles on my bed. I’m going to bed soon and hoping Pebbles will stay on the bed.
Annie still stays on the couch and hasn’t explored beyond the living room and kitchen.
Ah, the classic pie in the face routine. Always funny. Wish it would show up more often in modern comedy. On another note, saw two dragonflies, two juncos, nine chickadees, a spotted towhee, and a robin while out walking today.
