OK, ready for this? Some of you may have seen the pictures of the flooding in Vegas? Well it rained HARD. last night.About 11:30 I was awakened by a loud sounded, to me, like my glass topped patio table was blown against the house. I jumped out of bed to look. Nope all was well on the patio. I checked all the windows but they were still in one piece. I then thought that maybe it came from next door, so I went back to sleep. This morning I went down the hall to my office and I noticed a vintage cookie tin, (that we had for sale) was in the hallway. Thinking to put it back, I walked into the spare bedroom that I use as storage for all the china, glass etc that I sell on Etsy, and looked up. The back corner of the ceiling was gone and insulation was all over the floor. I swear I stared at it for 30 seconds before it dawned on me.
I sent a picture to Queen. The hole measures 2.5 feet by 4 feet. I called my SIL and he came and called the insurance. Of course it’s Sat. So he had to explain to the National main line who he was, why was he calling and not me etc. Thank goodness only one thing broke. A small bell. It’s right over the shelves that have the Vaseline glass on them. When it rains it pours!
I have happy and exciting news about Annie! I told the story yesterday about how she was lost and I caught her again (the last week of my vacation was pretty much ruined because I was so upset and worried about my missing kids). This ordeal has brought about a change in Annie. Friday night when I was dishing up canned cat food, she let me pet her and pet her and pet her more. Up until the time I lost her, she never allowed more than 4 or 5 strokes down her back before she would move away (and sometimes hiss at me). Friday night, I almost tried picking her up, but she didn’t seem quite ready for that. Now it’s Saturday night. I got home from work and Annie was head butting and rubbing against one of the other cats (she’s been doing that a lot more since she was lost and found too!). I squatted down next to them and started petting Annie. This was the first time I ever got to pet her like that when I wasn’t dishing up canned cat food! This time, I took a chance. I picked her up. I CUDDLED HER! She allowed that and actually enjoyed it! And Panther was watching. I hope Panther sees now that I’m not an ogre. I do not expect this to mean that I can do this every time I get near Annie nor that she will be a lap cat in the very near future. But it is amazing progress. Something I have waited 14 months for (I first caught her in early July last year). Clearly, she appreciates her home more now that she spent those terrifying days as a feral again. So do the other two I lost and found. But what a horrible ordeal it was for all of us!
And now to my next story. My first week of vacation was nice. I spent most of my time sitting out in the yard, reading, relaxing and doing some writing on my second book (writing stalled when I lost my 3 cats because I could not focus on anything else). One afternoon, while reading my book, I happened to look up and see a little black kitten approaching me. It saw me and it took off running. I tried, but could not coax it to come to me. The strange thing was, this kitten was INSIDE the fenced part of my yard. I believe someone intentionally dumped her there, either because they found her and thought she was mine or because she was their kitten and they thought my yard would be a good place to get rid of her. Judging by the fact she was scared of me, I think the second option is most likely. This was a really young kitten, maybe 8 weeks old. Small enough that when she ran off, she squeezed right through the chain link front gate. Well, of course, seeing this kitten around, the first thing I did was put food and water in the garage for her. I decided then that it was time for me to buy my own live trap so I would not have to keep borrowing traps every time someone dumps kittens on me. I had used a borrowed trap last year when I caught Annie and her 3 kittens. Anyway, I caught the kitten after a couple days. So I set up my big dog crate again that I used last year and I put the kitten in there so she wouldn’t hide in a corner and get lost. After a few days, she settled down and I let her out. Now she’s being a holy terror, chasing all the other cats, but she is a member of the family now. She is all black except for the barest hint of white on her belly between her back legs. There might be a spot on her chest, too, but there’ s no hair there. She was hurt and she had an ugly gash on her neck. It’s healed now and the fur is growing back. I’ve named her Raven (because she’s black like a raven). I’m keeping an eye out in case whoever dumped Raven here also dumped others.
That is one good napkin cat. Definitely looks like it could be related to Oliver. I’m really enjoying series. Wonder what Graham will come up with next. On another note, saw a dragonfly, seven juncos, three robins, and a squirrel while out walking today.

Could almost be Oliver wrapped up in a towel.

Adorable paper napkin kitty. Graham drew white whiskers on him too. Wondering if Bluebell, Jellybean, Lily and even Mimieux will find him alluring……

Today, I think I prefer the weather report comment to the art. We all have our preferences.
