NATIONAL HORROR MOVIE DAY. I’m not a fan of horror movies. I’ve never seen “The Texas Chainsaw Masacre” or the many “Halloween” movies or any other gory movies like those. I did watch one movie that was supposed to be scary. I watched “The Birds” and I laughed all the way through it.

NATIONAL TV TALK SHOW HOST DAY. I don’t care for talk shows. Top of the list as the very worst one ever produced would be “The View”. I saw about 12 seconds of it once while flipping through channels and that was enough.
NATIONAL MOLE DAY. We’ll eliminate any visions of a burrowing creature celebration immediately; National Mole Day recognizes a special number in chemistry. Chemists and chemistry students mark the occasion each year on October 23rd. More specifically, the celebrations take place between 6:02 AM and 6:02 PM. In the U.S., the time and date are written 6:02 10/23. The time and date are derived from Avogadro’s number. Avogadro’s number is approximately 6.02×10^23. Hence, defining the number of particles (atoms or molecules) in one mole of a substance, one of the seven base SI units. A mole is a unit of measurement used in chemistry to express amounts of a chemical substance. Avogadro’s number is a historical term closely related to the Avogadro constant. The Avogadro constant is named after the early 19th-century Italian scientist Amedeo Avogadro.
We finished our voting in our pumpkin decorating contest at work. Last year, I got first place for my “bat cat”, but this year, I came in third with my blue-eyed bear. I wish we could post pictures here, but my Facebook friends will be able to see the pictures of all 4 entries. I’m okay with getting third place. I think the first 2 place winners had better pumpkins than I did anyway (though the winner actually decorated a couple butternut squash rather than a pumpkin). Anyway, I got a decent prize which was worth more than I spent on my entry. I spent $2 for the pumpkin and I decorated it with a piece of fake fur that had been sitting around my house for years. And the eyes and nose were made with buttons I already had around. So my total cost of decorating the pumpkin was just the $2 I paid for the pumpkin. I think everyone got the same prize (every entry got a prize). It was a Halloween trick-or-treat bucket filled with one scented candle (warm apple pie scent), a bottle of liquid hand soap (raspberry scent), and a handful or two of assorted candy. There was also a $10 gift card for Jersey’s Mike’s subs. That was quite a surprise. The only thing is, I don’t eat out and I’m not really into subs (too much extra stuff on them like onions – I HATE onions) and I never even heard of Jersey Mike’s. I’d sell the gift card in a heartbeat if someone offered to buy it from me. Anyway, the contest was fun and I’m glad I entered. I almost didn’t enter because at first, I couldn’t come up with an idea how to decorate my pumpkin.
Maybe Lily would do a better job of protecting Oliver. It was nice of Jack and Chesney to offer their help, though. On another note, saw four nuthatches, five juncos, a Steller’s jay, two squirrels, a raven, and a caterpillar while out walking today.
