After one of my radio plays was broadcast on commercial radio, I decided to try to do a live broadcast on stage from a downtown bar. The broadcast part fell through.
The radio station wanted me to find my own advertisers, did not want me to approach any of their existing advertisers but refused to provide a list of those to avoid.
I knew a week in advance that it would be a stage-only (no broadcast) event but the bar refused to take down the “live broadcast” signs.
On the day, my cast of eight performed for 15 people. Most people who knew about my play were home waiting to hear it on the radio. That was the end of my show business career.
