This painting is so poorly executed, it might just be a sin.

Gives a whole new meaning to the word “Gothic art.”

They got the family deal on dentistry. Today was fillings on the upper left side of the mouth. That Xylocaine takes a while to wear off.

That sure looks like a family living in the Levant 2000 years ago!

Click-to-enlarge image, of the full painting, can be found here, or here. Smaller enlargement, of this detail image, can be found at Mr. Melcher’s blog entry.Holy Family with an Angel (links show Wikipedia pages; I guess to make his pseudo-title work, Mr. Melcher removed the Angel) isn’t among the masterpieces shown online by its current-location. The artist’s Wikipedia page (Google translated German Wikipedia page may have more) and collection (more under Subcategories at each level).Third, of the 4 works, by this artist, that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here.

They look like the grandparents letting their new grandson wear the love beads grandpa wore at Woodstock!

He was a good artist. Mary and Joseph are exact renditions of the painting’s patrons. They shared a jug of wine before the revealing and loved the painting.

All this one suggested to me was that it must have been done to honor a wealthy patron and therefore has likenesses of his family; I know that was often done in showing onlookers at such an even, but it IS a shame to show the Holy Family this way.

On second viewing, I think this was done by two artists.-One, for whatever reason (fired by the male patron?) couldn’t finish. Another came in, and botched things up even more.-Or maybe one was good in everything but faces, and the face specialist couldn’t “find” the feel the main artist was trying for?-Just guessing, of course.

Ah! Now we see the inspiration for the “Ecce Homo” Spanish fresco restoration.
